Zero Waste Ideas For Your Kitchen
March 23, 2020 | 5 mins | Cathy Y
Looking at cleaning up your act in the kitchen? The purpose of zero waste is to prevent as much matter from heading to the landfill as possible. Consider some of these tips to go zero-waste in the kitchen and remember the goal is progress, not perfection!
-
Swap paper towels for reusable rags.
-
Swap sandwich baggies for reusable containers like stainless steel boxes, glass jars etc.
-
Shop the farmer’s market when you can: they’ll take the egg carton and the berries baskets back for reuse. Your veggies will also most likely be free of plastic and stickers there too.
-
Learn to love your tap water.
-
Use baking soda as a scrubber with a compostable cleaning brush.
-
Reinvent your leftovers before they go bad. Go through your recipe binder/box and only keep the recipes that can be achieved with zero waste in mind.
-
Invest in a pressure cooker(halves the cooking time).
-
Swap plastic straws with reusable straws like bamboo.
-
Open your oven after baking in the winter (cool your oven, warm your house).
-
Swap disposable cutlery with reusable & compostable cutlery like bamboo.
Making some of these changes can be overwhelming and daunting. But the key to success lies in starting small and remaining consistent. How about picking 2 things from this list that you will consider adopting in your day to day life or coming up with 2 of your own ideas?
